Graylen is a HR intern in Learning and Development at LG Energy Solution Michigan. She found LG’s internship program while searching for an internship that met the requirements set by Grand Valley State University. One of Graylen’s supervisors, Hazel Foster, went to GVSU and received the same degree that Graylen is pursuing. “Hazel understood what experiences I needed to gain from my internship because she went through the program herself. She did a great job of giving me tasks that would enhance my learning and give me a broader perspective on what I could do with my degree,” Graylen said.
Making an Impact
Over the course of her internship, Graylen developed training tools for the LinkedIn learning program, implemented organization techniques, created process documents, assisted in recognizing members of the leadership foundation training program and wrote portions of the LG Energy Solution Michigan newsletter.
“My biggest improvement since starting at LG Energy Solution Michigan has been in my professional writing skills. I’m much more confident writing on behalf of the company and when corresponding with my peers,” said Graylen.
Welcoming Workplace
Reflecting on her internship, Graylen says she will remember the relationships she formed with fellow interns and employees the most. “My internship has been such a fun and welcoming experience. Even people who aren’t in my department took the time to make me feel like an equal. I never felt like a new, temporary person—I feel valued here.”
Graylen has gained hands-on experience during her internship that she wouldn’t have received in the classroom. “I was given tasks that benefited the company, and I got to see my solutions in use. I’m proud of my work here, and I would encourage students thinking of applying to an internship at LG to do so.”
