An interest in renewable energy led Melody to intern with LG Energy Solution Michigan, Inc. on the energy engineering team before her senior year at Lake Superior State University. After graduating, Melody immediately applied for an open position in the same department she interned in and was hired as an engineer. She’s been with the team for over a year and has grown a tremendous amount since her internship.
Her and her colleagues are responsible for increasing the energy efficiency of the Holland plant and, in turn, decreasing their carbon footprint. Her work often consists of project management, requiring her to answer questions from contractors, be present for new utility installation and calculate the potential energy savings a certain project could yield.
Moving Toward a Sustainable Future
Melody says she was attracted to LG Energy Solution Michigan because of her belief that electric vehicles are the future of the automotive industry. “I was interested in sustainable energy to begin with, but after interning here, I knew this was a place I could make a difference,” Melody says.
When asked about what she would say to someone interested in working at LG Energy Solution Michigan, Melody says, “It’s a growing industry, and that’s very important. We have big goals that we’re trying to achieve and we’re never stagnant.”
Variety Makes the Days Fly By
When asked about her day-to-day routine, Melody says, “I love that my job isn’t strictly a desk job! I get to walk around checking on projects, touring sites with contractors, and I’m the point of contact if anyone has a question.” Melody also commented on how collaborative her team is, which leads to her consulting on her colleague’s projects throughout the day. “We all work together to make the building run properly and efficiently,” Melody says.
Outside of work, Melody enjoys reading, spending time with her friends and family, and practicing taekwondo.
