50,000 Masks Donated to First Responders

Community Engagement, News

LG Energy Solution donated over 50,000 masks to local and state first responders this week. LGESMI donated 12,000 masks to Holland Hospital, 6,000 to Holland Public Safety, 4,000 to American Medical Response, and 2,000 to the Ottawa County Health Department. In addition to local contributions, LGESMI has donated another 30,000 masks to the State of Michigan.

“We recognize that beating COVID 19 will take collective action from our community, business leaders and government. LG is proud to be part of that effort,” said Jeremy Hagemeyer, human resources director.

Protecting Frontliners

The Holland-based automotive supplier of lithium-ion battery cells and packs typically utilizes the standard medical-grade masks during their cleanroom production process. However, LGESMI ceased production in alignment with the governor’s orders. When the company received an additional shipment of masks last week, the safety team developed a plan for donation distribution.

“We wanted to focus our donations on first responders. We are incredibly grateful for the work they are doing to protect our community,” said Jason Allen, the safety, health and environmental manager. “We can’t wait to have our team back doing what we love, but until that time, we are honored to do our part in protecting our community and our neighbors.“

This is the second time LGESMI has donated masks during the pandemic, having donated 9,000 masks to local resources last month.
