Veterans Build: Homes, Hope, and Unity

Thought Leadership

This September, LG Energy Solution Michigan sponsored Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity’s Veterans Build. The build includes a group of volunteers and fellow veterans working together to build a home for a veteran in need. This year’s build took place at Vista Green, Lakeshore Habitat’s largest housing project.

In addition to sponsoring the event, a group of four LG Energy Solution Veteran employees joined in the cause.

Terry Ferrier, an Air Force veteran and LG Energy Solution Michigan senior recruiter, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the event. “Any time I get a chance to give back to my veteran community, it’s a blessing. There are a lot of deserving veterans who need help.”

The deserving recipient of the home is Navy veteran, Andrea Martinez and her mother and daughter. In 2018, Andrea relocated from Chile to West Michigan. She struggled to meet the cost of rent and faced other financial difficulties that made housing a burden. Since partnering with Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity, she has stable housing that she can afford.

Nearly a quarter of all veterans struggle with meeting financial demands including the cost of housing. We’re proud that this project will alleviate that burden for one individual in our community.
“We are taking a weight off a fellow veteran’s shoulders by giving her a home. I thank God for waking me up this morning and giving me the strength to help her today,” said Corinna Medina, a U.S Army veteran.

Andrea’s home was completed over the course of one week with over eighty volunteers from various organizations involved in the build. We’re overwhelmed by the generosity of our community and are grateful to everyone who participated.
